Grammy-winning South African star Tyla is set to make her Disney debut in the upcoming Toy Story 5, lending her voice to a brand-new character created specifically for audiences across Sub-Saharan Africa. The 24-year-old singer will portray the Inflatable Flamingo, a playful pool toy who befriends the Toy Story gang as they face new challenges in a world where technology increasingly competes with traditional toys.
Speaking about the opportunity, Tyla said she was thrilled to join one of the most beloved animated franchises of all time. The singer revealed that she grew up watching the Toy Story films with her family and described the role as a dream come true. Disney Africa shared the announcement through social media, along with footage of Tyla recording her lines for the film. The casting also fulfills a wish she jokingly expressed in 2023 when she publicly invited Disney to contact her about future opportunities.
The role marks Tyla’s second venture into animation following her contribution to the 2025 Smurfs soundtrack. In Toy Story 5, she joins a star-studded cast that includes Tom Hanks, Tim Allen, Joan Cusack, and Annie Potts. New additions include Greta Lee, Conan O'Brien, and Craig Robinson, while Keanu Reeves and Tony Hale reprise their previous roles. The highly anticipated Pixar sequel arrives in theaters on June 19.
